Journey overview

The four-hour gorilla habituation experience is what defines this three-day Bwindi safari. Unlike the standard trek, the activity follows a semi-habituated family with researchers, trackers and rangers and allows up to four hours with the gorillas once they are located. The rest of the itinerary is deliberately simple because the road transfer from Kampala or Entebbe takes most of Day 1 and Day 3.

Key highlights

  • Gorilla habituation experience: Spend up to four hours observing a semi-habituated mountain gorilla family.
  • Follow the habituation process with researchers, trackers and rangers.
  • Drive through southwestern Uganda’s rolling hills, tea-growing areas and villages.
  • Stop at the Equator for photos and local craft shops.

Itinerary

3 days of guided travel, planned by our safari team from arrival to departure.

Day 1

Pickup from Entebbe or Kampala - transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The first day is a long road transfer, so your driver-guide will collect you in Entebbe or Kampala in the morning and cover the route before departure. The Equator Monument provides a natural break for photos and local craft shops on the way southwest. Kigezi's rolling hills, villages and tea-growing areas mark the final part of the journey into Bwindi. Arrival is expected in the late afternoon, leaving the evening for check-in, dinner and preparation for the forest.

Day 2

Gorilla habituation experience in Bwindi

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Researchers and rangers are part of the day from the start. Following the park briefing, enter Bwindi to locate a semi-habituated gorilla family; once the group is found, the experience allows up to four hours with them. The research team may explain how observations are recorded and how individual gorillas are identified, while any visitor participation follows their instructions. Other forest wildlife may also be encountered along the trail. Back at the lodge, lunch and rest come first. A Batwa community visit can be added later if timing and energy allow, with the visit focused on forest traditions and local history.
