Short Uganda safaris

Short Uganda safaris

Private short Uganda safaris for gorillas, Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth or Lake Mburo, planned to avoid wasting most of the trip on transfers.

Quick gorilla fly-in

Careful planning for unhurried journeys.

A short Uganda safari works when it is focused. It fails when a three to six-day itinerary tries to prove value by adding too many parks.

The right question is not “how much can we fit?” It is “what can we experience properly before the next transfer takes over the day?”

3 days

Three days is enough for one clear objective:

  • Bwindi gorilla trek by road, accepting long transfer days
  • Murchison Falls with a game drive and boat safari
  • Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Lake Mburo for a lighter wildlife break

Do not combine distant regions in three days.

4 days

Four days gives more flexibility around a gorilla trek or a stronger Murchison stay. It also works for Queen Elizabeth with less pressure on arrival and departure.

For gorillas, the extra night is often more valuable as rest than as another activity.

5 to 6 days

This is where a two-destination route becomes reasonable.

Good combinations include:

  • Queen Elizabeth + Bwindi
  • Lake Mburo + Bwindi
  • Kibale + Queen Elizabeth

Kibale + Bwindi can work, but the road plan needs care and often benefits from Queen Elizabeth as the natural bridge.

Road or fly-in?

Domestic flights can protect a short itinerary from being dominated by road travel. They cost more, but time has a value too.

A three-night fly-in gorilla trip may be better value for a time-poor traveller than a cheaper road itinerary that spends two days in transit.

Short does not mean rushed

We still protect permit timing, realistic check-in, meal breaks and recovery. A private safari gives us more control over pacing, but it does not shorten Uganda’s geography.

Tell us how many full days on the ground you have, not only the number of calendar dates between flights. That is the number that should shape the route.

2-day Volcanoes National Park gorilla trekking safari

2 days

Two days works here because Volcanoes National Park can be reached from Kigali in a few hours. The first day combines a city visit with the transfer north, and the second is almost entirely built around the gorilla trek before the drive back. It is a compressed itinerary for travellers whose schedule does not allow a slower stay around the park. Volcanoes National Park covers about 160 square kilometres within the wider Virunga Conservation Area. Karisimbi, Sabinyo, Muhabura, Bisoke and Gahinga are five of the eight main Virunga volcanoes, and the park also supports golden monkeys, forest elephants, buffaloes and more than 178 bird species. Dian Fossey's research and anti-poaching work are closely tied to this landscape. The itinerary includes Kigali, the Gisozi Genocide Memorial and one gorilla trek. The $1,500 permit fee shown here should be reconfirmed for the intended travel date.
