Uganda chimpanzee safaris

Uganda chimpanzee safaris

Private Uganda chimpanzee safaris centred on Kibale National Park, with options to add Queen Elizabeth, gorilla trekking or a slower Fort Portal stay.

Careful planning for unhurried journeys.

A chimpanzee safari should give Kibale National Park enough time to feel like a destination, not a morning activity between two long drives. For most travellers, two nights is the minimum useful stay. Three gives the forest and Fort Portal region more breathing room.

Short Kibale safari

A focused three or four-day trip can travel from Entebbe or Kampala to Kibale, track chimpanzees and return. It is simple and works well for travellers who have already done gorillas or who are more interested in chimpanzees than a broad safari.

Kibale + Queen Elizabeth

This is the strongest short extension. After chimpanzee tracking, continue south to Queen Elizabeth for a game drive and Kazinga Channel boat safari.

The change from forest to savannah is immediate enough that the trip feels varied without excessive movement.

Kibale + Bwindi

Add gorilla trekking if primates are the main reason for travelling. The route usually works best with Queen Elizabeth between the two forests rather than forcing a direct rush south.

Chimpanzee tracking or habituation?

Standard tracking suits most visitors. Habituation gives a longer-format forest experience and costs more.

Choose it because you want more time following chimpanzees, not because “more hours” automatically means better sightings.

Accommodation levels

Budget, midrange and luxury options are available around Kibale and Fort Portal. Location, meal timing and early access to the tracking point matter more than a long amenities list.

For a one-day tracking schedule, a comfortable lodge near the activity can improve the trip more than a higher category property far away.

Private safari format

Our chimpanzee safaris are private. That gives your party control over the road pace and how the day is structured around the tracking session.

The chimpanzee permit itself remains regulated by Uganda Wildlife Authority.

Tell us whether you want chimpanzees only, chimpanzees + wildlife, or chimpanzees + gorillas. The correct route changes immediately once that is clear.

2-day Volcanoes National Park gorilla trekking safari

2 days

Two days works here because Volcanoes National Park can be reached from Kigali in a few hours. The first day combines a city visit with the transfer north, and the second is almost entirely built around the gorilla trek before the drive back. It is a compressed itinerary for travellers whose schedule does not allow a slower stay around the park. Volcanoes National Park covers about 160 square kilometres within the wider Virunga Conservation Area. Karisimbi, Sabinyo, Muhabura, Bisoke and Gahinga are five of the eight main Virunga volcanoes, and the park also supports golden monkeys, forest elephants, buffaloes and more than 178 bird species. Dian Fossey's research and anti-poaching work are closely tied to this landscape. The itinerary includes Kigali, the Gisozi Genocide Memorial and one gorilla trek. The $1,500 permit fee shown here should be reconfirmed for the intended travel date.
