Gorillas and chimpanzees belong in the same Uganda itinerary because the route can be made coherent. The mistake is trying to connect them with too many extra parks and too many one-night stays.
For most travellers, the best structure uses Kibale for chimpanzees, Queen Elizabeth National Park as the savannah bridge, and Bwindi for gorillas.
A strong route structure
Day 1: Arrive and rest near Entebbe.
Days 2–3: Travel to Kibale and track chimpanzees.
Days 4–5: Continue to Queen Elizabeth for a game drive and Kazinga Channel boat safari.
Days 6–8: Move to the correct Bwindi sector, trek gorillas and leave enough time to recover before the return journey.
This is a route concept, not a fixed package. Permit dates, flight times and accommodation tier can shift the order.
Why Queen Elizabeth belongs in the middle
The park is not an upsell between primates. It changes the habitat and breaks the road journey while adding a genuinely different safari experience.
If you do not care about savannah wildlife, it can be shortened or removed. A direct primate route is valid too.
Permit planning comes first
Gorilla permits have the least flexibility because sector and date affect the lodge and southern route. Secure that first.
Chimpanzee tracking can then be placed around the gorilla date. Both permit systems are controlled by Uganda Wildlife Authority.

The total depends on:
- Number of travellers sharing the vehicle
- Travel season
- Gorilla and chimpanzee permit category
- Accommodation tier
- Road versus domestic flight sectors
- Number of nights
We do not use one “from” price to pretend the same amount applies to every date and lodge level.
Who is this trip for?
Choose a gorilla and chimpanzee safari if primates are the main reason for visiting Uganda but you still want a broader sense of the country.
If gorillas are the only priority and you have four nights, keep the trip focused. If you have eight to ten nights, the chimpanzee route becomes much easier to justify.
