A Uganda primate safari should be built around time in the forests, not around how many parks can be squeezed into the quotation. The strongest routes combine gorillas in Bwindi or Mgahinga with chimpanzees in Kibale, then use Queen Elizabeth National Park as a natural change of habitat between them.
Golden monkeys fit when the route already reaches Mgahinga or Kisoro.
The core primate route
For most first-time travellers, this is the most coherent structure:
Kibale National Park → Queen Elizabeth National Park → Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
Kibale gives you chimpanzees. Queen Elizabeth adds savannah wildlife and a boat safari. Bwindi becomes the gorilla anchor.
The sequence can run in reverse depending on gorilla permit availability and flight plans.
How many days do you need?
Seven nights is the point where the route starts to feel comfortable rather than compressed. More time gives you recovery around the gorilla trek and fewer one-night stops.
A shorter trip can still focus on primates, but you should cut destinations rather than cut rest. For example, a short route can use Bwindi plus Mgahinga or Bwindi plus a single wildlife stop.
Budget, midrange or luxury
The same route can be built at different accommodation levels.
Budget means simpler rooms and fewer lodge extras, not careless logistics. Midrange usually buys stronger room comfort and location options. Luxury can improve privacy, service and lodge setting, but it does not change the permit rules or control where primates move.
Spend more where it changes the trip. Around gorilla trekking, location can be more valuable than a long facility list.

That matters on a primate route because forest days can finish at unpredictable times. A private plan gives you more control over recovery, lunch timing and the next transfer.
Which primates should you include?
Choose gorillas plus chimpanzees if you want the strongest two-species route. Add golden monkeys when Mgahinga fits naturally. Do not add a third trekking activity simply because it is available.
